The Roof for Your HomeModern Technologies and Materials
Once the foundations and walls are complete, it’s time for the roof. We build it in three key phases: framework assembly, roof covering, and insulation. Deciding on materials happens during the design phase to accurately estimate your investment.
Whether it’s a flat roof or a multi-pitched roof, the roof is a critical part of the building, exposed to significant wind pressure. The thickness and airtightness of the roof insulation are paramount. Even small gaps in insulation can lead to issues.
We commonly insulate roofs with mineral wool or polyurethane foam. Flat roofs are very effectively insulated with PIR boards.
Elements like chimneys and roof windows need careful attention. Proper insulation must be airtight, protected from moisture, and continuous, linking from foundations to walls to roof, creating a sealed “envelope” for your entire home.
Roof Truss
The roof truss is the fundamental element that defines your roof’s shape. This wooden framework is crucial, as it bears the weight from the roof covering, withstands wind and snow loads, and supports its own mass.
The design of the roof truss is determined by several factors, including the functional layout of your attic space, the type of roof covering you choose, and how the structure can be supported by the rest of the building.
While prefabricated roof trusses are a common and efficient choice, for multi-story buildings, the roof truss is often built on-site. Typically, your contractor will recommend the best solution, but you also have a say in this important decision.
Roof Covering
The roof covering for your home can take many forms, offering a wide range of aesthetic and functional choices. Some popular options include various types of metal sheeting and metal roof tiles, ceramic roof tiles, and concrete roof tiles.
Among metal options, standing seam metal roofing is currently very popular. When it comes to value and quality, concrete roof tiles are frequently chosen by clients. However, for more sophisticated and elegant home designs, we particularly recommend ceramic roof tiles.
The sheer number of choices can seem overwhelming, and many factors influence the best option, such as the complexity of your roof’s shape or its pitch. But you don’t need to be an expert; that’s our role! We’re here to guide you and help make the perfect decision for your beautiful Croatian home.
Insulation
For optimal roof insulation, we primarily use spray PUR foam. This advanced technology effectively minimizes thermal bridges and provides excellent protection against wind-related heat loss. For you, this means lower heating costs and real savings on future energy bills. Plus, PUR foam application is significantly faster, which in turn reduces overall construction time.
Another common insulation method we offer is mineral wool. It remains a widely used and favored material in residential construction, known for its reliable performance.
When it comes to insulation, we can guide you based on local building regulations and legal requirements here in Croatia. However, if your goal is a truly energy-efficient home, we always recommend exceeding these minimum standards to achieve superior thermal performance and long-term savings. We’ll help you understand the best options to ensure your home is both compliant and exceptionally comfortable.
